Project 86Z - Engine

The engine is the original 305 w/4bbl. It is completely stock and doesn't look like it's ever been apart. It's dirty and rusty and in need of a lot of help.

It's hard to know where to start, there are so many wires and hoses. What are the odds this will go back together correctly?

Judging from the amount of sludge, the engine probably wasn't maintained as well as it should have been.

As parts are removed, they're cleaned, repaired and repainted. The Rochester CC carburetor is being rebuilt, and will be re-used along with the original intake manifold.

With the heads removed we can see the cylinder walls. Both the pistons and the cylinders look great from here, with no scoring or excessive wear.

The first attempt to remove the engine was a failure. I tried taking it out without the transmission but it didn't want to break free. Plan B will be to drop the K-member first.
