1968 RS Headlight Assembly Tutorial

Part 1 - 68 RS Vacuum Tank and Relay Switch
This section details the mounting of the Vacuum Tank and the Vacuum Relay Switch. It also shows the routing of the vacuum hoses.

This picture shows the hose routing to the Relay Vacuum Switch. Two hoses come from the headlight switch, The pink striped wire on top of the relay switch and the un-striped one that goes to the tee on the yellow striped hoses. The other un-striped hose that goes to the vacuum tank comes from the vacuum fitting on the intake manifold. It provides the tank with vacuum and should have the in-line filter. Make sure the filter is installed correctly or it will block vacuum to the tank.

This is a top down view of the Relay Vacuum Switch and the vacuum tank. It has a better view of the placement of the in-line filter.
The order of hoses coming from the Relay Switch from top to bottom is as follows:
  1. Green striped. This gets routed to the front of the radiator support where it goes to a tee. Each output of the tee goes to one of the actuators.
  2. Yellow Striped. This comes from the tee that is off the hose coming from the headlight switch. The other output of the tee goes directly to the tank.
  3. Large Pink Striped. This also gets routed to the front of the radiator support where it goes to a tee. Each output of the tee goes to one of the actuators.

This picture shows how the hoses get routed in front of the radiator support. I like to keep the hoses tucked up under the top lip of the support to keep them from flopping around.
